Fashion Fringe Newsletter January 2011

At the beginning of 2011 I want to share with you all a letter I received just before Christmas from one of our finalists.  It read:

“I have been finding it hard to find the right words to express my gratitude to you, for the amazing opportunity you have given me.  Fashion Fringe has been an incredible turning point in my career.

With all the mentoring support and business guidance, I feel more confident and strong-willed than ever before, ready to push my business to the next level.  It has been a huge eye-opener and I feel the whole experience has been truly inspiring.  As I start my new collection, and with my ideas evolving, I see no limitations to what I could achieve.

A million thanks.”

I love this letter because it so encapsulates what I hoped to achieve when I set up Fashion Fringe at Covent Garden with IMG eight years ago.

This year is promising to be an exciting one. As many of you will already have seen in Grazia, our Accessories Award this year is supported by Roger Vivier, one of the most evocative names in fashion.  And I am also please because I knew Roger and I know that gentle, unassuming man would love the idea of his name being associated with something setting out to help and sustain emerging talent.  Like most great creators, he really believed in youth.

But that is not all that our association with Roger Vivier brings.  As you all know, the talented Bruno Frisoni has, as Design Director, carried on the style and class that Roger was also famous for.  I am delighted that he will be choosing, encouraging and mentoring our designers, one of whom will follow in the footsteps of our previous winners, Liam Fahy and Helen Robotham.  We are very lucky to have his support.

And, finally, I just want to say how happy we are to see Aminaka Wilmont, Eun Jeong, JENA.THEO and Corrie Nielsen all on the London Fashion Week schedule this February and, even more pleasing for me, all on the same day!

Happy New Year to all of our supporters, at every level, and brace yourselves for an exciting year ahead!
