To launch Fashion Fringe in 2012, we went back to University.
Because we know that some of the best and brightest fashion stars in the UK emerge from towns and cities far beyond London’s borders, Fashion Fringe hit the road, embarking on a regional tour of Britain for ten days in March.
As in previous years, Colin McDowell visited leading Universities throughout the UK, bringing with him a panel of the UK’s fashion elite – Christopher Kane, Gareth Pugh, Matthew Williamson, Giles Deacon, Julien Macdonald and Erdem – offering fashion students and local fashion professionals advice on how to succeed in various career paths within the industry.
The first 2012 Road Show at the Edinburgh College of Art coincided with the call for applications for the 2012 Fashion Fringe award, which opened on 12th March. The series culminated fittingly with Erdem (Fashion Fringe winner from 2005) on 20th March in London at the Royal College of Art. We also visited Northumbria University, Manchester Metropolitan, Nottingham Trent and Brighton – all of whom were very welcoming and gracious hosts.
The speakers talked about their own career experiences, offering unrivalled networking opportunities for all attendees, and were hugely valued by all of our guests. Events were free to students, with limited tickets available for other members of the public.
We are hoping to take Fashion Fringe on the road again in 2013.
