He is the Founder and Creative Director of Fashion Fringe – an initiative set up in 2003 with IMG in order to strengthen London as a fashion centre by stemming the ‘brain drain’ of young designers who were forced to find work abroad as there was so little possibility of making a living in the United Kingdom.

During the nine years of existence, Fashion Fringe has discovered and sustained seventeen young talents currently owning their own businesses and showing their work to foreign press and buyers each season in London. But McDowell is most proud of the mentoring programme he set up as part of Fashion Fringe to inform and train the Finalists of the platform in the things necessary for running and sustaining a business. The Fashion Fringe format has since been adopted all over the world.

Colin McDowell is one of the international fashion elite, an insider renowned for his insightful judgement, deep knowledge of the arts and his long-term commitment to the global fashion industry.
